The Pure Bred Arabian: The pure bred Arabian is judged as a riding horse and although they can be found in all different shapes and sizes the classes are not split by height, they are split into three sections Mares, Geldings, Stallions although you may find that some of the county shows aren’t split at all. A good ridden Arab should be no different from any other show horse, produced with manner to burn, good confirmation and nice straight movement and expected to give a judge a lovely light responsive ride. When turning out, an Arabian is to be left natural with no pulled or platted manes/ tails, the ears can be trimmed around the edge but no hair removed from the inside, no whiskers removed, heels may be tidied if necessary and you may see some horses being shown with long bridle paths, these can’t be over 6 inches long. No coloured make up or hoof oil is allowed only clear highlighter and chalk is used to enhance there natural beauty. The Pure Bred Arabian must be registered with the Arab Horse Society. The Part Bred Arabian: The part bred Arab class can be found at most of the county shows, most are qualifiers for the Cherif Championship which is growing in popularity with every year that passes. There is no ideal “type” for a part bred Arab and they can be found competing in a huge range of classes from riding horses to first ridden. The part bred classes are judged as a riding horse with height stipulations on the schedules. (This isn’t to say that they have to be a riding horse type.) But must have at least 12.5% Arab blood and be a registered part bred Arab with the Arab Horse Society. |
